Another reason to love nature

Most nature lovers probably already attest to the physical and mental benefits that being outdoors and in contact with natural environments provides them. It’s good to hear that anecdotal evidence is being supported by science, especially in regards to ageing. A recent University of Minnesota study found that “green and blue spaces (blue spaces being environments with running or still water) are especially beneficial for healthy aging in seniors.”

Something I found particularly interesting was that “while younger generations use green and blue spaces more to escape and rejuvenate, [older people seem to use] nature to be active physically, spiritually and socially in later life.” Also of note was the researchers’ comment that “Hopefully [this research] will help urban planners and developers build communities that span a lifetime.”
