Learning about dementia – a new mentoring programme

Published Apr 14th 2014

Several buddy programmes at university medical schools pair medical students with patients from the local community with dementia.  This provides first-hand experience for the doctors-to-be of the challenges of living with the diagnosis and provides an extra social link for patients as they work through, and adjust to, declining cognitive ability.  The goals of the programme include reducing the stigma of the disease as well as providing education for students beyond the classroom.
