NESTA, the UK’s innovation foundation, recently published a summary of research it commissioned on the challenges of an aging society and the possibilities for innovation to meet those challenges. The report says that “individually and collectively, we are unprepared for an ageing society. We need new services, products and initiatives that help us to live healthier, wealthier and happier longer lives – across health and social care, housing, transport, the local environment, and personal finance.
“Despite the significant demands of an ageing society, it also represents a massive opportunity to strengthen our economy and our society. The UK is not the only country facing this challenge. How we respond should be seen as one of the major competitive as well as cultural challenges of the 21st century.”
