Innovation in living with and caring for dementia

Published Sep 14th 2015

So… now that we know incidences of dementia are increasing worldwide, what can be done to best support the many people and families learning to cope with the disease?

NESTA, a UK “innovation charity with a mission to help people and organisations bring great ideas to life,” has created a Living Map of Innovators to bring together some of the exciting advancements being made in the field of positive ageing.

With “lots of great work being done to support people with dementia and their carers at a local and national level,” some of the highlights from the Map include: Dementia Cafes for socialising in safe environments; the See What I Mean app that translates words into pictures to make communicating ideas or emotions easier; and Dementia Dogs that help people maintain a healthy routine as well as providing companionship.

Have a look through the Map yourself here; you can search by condition, stage, outcome and others.
