The Mediterranean Diet and physical activity lead list of ways to maintain brain health

A recent article in the HuffPost listed seven ways to get, and keep, “a happy, healthy brain.” It won’t come as a surprise to the fairly health-conscious among us that physical health continues its important role in the maintenance of mental health.

I include diet in physical health, and the HuffPost article lists olive oil as its number one step in staying mentally healthy. Reducing the amount of excessive drinking and smoking also helps, as does sleeping well, reducing chronic stress, getting out of the chair for some exercise and continued learning and engagement.

Interestingly, reducing the levels of regular exposure to air pollution can significantly reduce the risk of premature aging of the brain. Read the full article.
